Our Leadership Prayer

38581292_f13a4b5a00_oThis past Sunday we introduced our new Pastor’s Council to our congregation.  At the end of the service our congregation gathered around us, anointed us with oil and prayed God’s blessing on us and our church.  Greatest treat was to have all the kids from Kids Zone gather with the adults and lay hands on us.

Here is the text of the prayer.  It was a real encouragement to me and I trust it will be a great encouragement to you too.

God, we thank you – we thank you for your love, thank you for the love that you have for the people of Towne Centre Church.

God, thank you that you have given us a team of Godly leaders, who love us, but who love you so much more. Thank you God for your promise to lead them into all truth and for your promise to guide them by the empowerment of your Holy Spirit.

God, at times as a congregation there will be many visible displays of your power and your might, and God we will rejoice and give you praise. But God we know that times of challenge are also inevitable, when the works of your hands will be more difficult to trace, and so may we also, along with them, trust you and continue to give you praise, because we believe what your Word says and we know that you are working all things out for our good, because we love you and we trust in you.

God, may our leaders be people of prayer – may they be people who are found regularly in your Word, so that the temptation will never be for them to lead in their own strength and in their own wisdom. Show yourself real to them Lord, not only in their role as leaders in our church, but in their own personal relationship with you, and through times of reading your Word and through prayer, may you come alive to them in their hearts and in their lives. May they find strength for themselves, but then also the strength that is needed to encourage the body of Christ and to carry out your purposes in our lives.

Lord, we are so thankful for what you are doing in us as a church. May each of us recognize our responsibility to be growing in you spiritually, so that we can also partner with our leadership team to carry out your work in Brooklin and beyond.

Lord, we have so much to give you thanks for – we thank you for all that you have done and for all you are going to do. Lord we remain open to know and to hear and to sense what your plans are for us as a church, so that we may walk obediently in the ways of our Lord.

God, I commit each one to you for the sake of your kingdom and for the furtherance of it here on earth and I pray these things now, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
